La Roche College is a private college found in McCandless, Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. The school was established by the Sisters of Divine Providence in 1963 as a Roman Catholic College and as a private college for religious sisters. The main campus is found on 80 acres of land in McCandless, PA. The school was named in honor of Stephanie La Roche von Starkenfels, the very first Mother Superior of the Sisters. The college held its first classes in 1965. Then in 1967 the school expanded and leased space to build the first College building, named the John J. Wright Library. The school receives an average enrollment of just over 1,700 students. The school has a motto of "Ad lucem per amorem" which means to light through love.
Residence halls were also added to the main campus and they were expanded upon in 1997 and again in 2003. These halls were named the Bold Hall and Bold Hall II. The main campus also features several athletic facilities including a weight room, a baseball field, an indoor track, a soccer field, a gymnasium, a baseball and softball field, a dance studio, outdoor tennis courts and basketball courts, and an aerobics room.
La Roche College is a member of the NCAA or the National Collegiate Athletic Association in Division III. The college competes in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference or the AMCC. The school fields teams in several sports including men's soccer, baseball, lacrosse, basketball, gold and cross country; as well as women's volleyball, basketball, tennis, cross country, softball and soccer. La Roche College has won ten AMCC Conference Championships in baseball, basketball, softball and tennis.
